The same excuses could be said about anyone watching anime or even these Vtubers, as much as I hate Vtubers. Of course, despite being lambasted as catering to a pedo audience and fanbase, it's no doubt a chunk of the anime/Vtuber audience are young. But no one is letting them off the hook by saying "Let Johnny goon to Gura, he's young. I 'member when I was 15. Hehe." So why would anyone afford the same generosity to Josh?

Now, if we were to be uncharitable, we would use Josh's own standards against him and find it odd that he chose an underage character as his crush. But personally, I don't like the moralfaggotry when people start searching up the ages of fictional characters to own someone. I generally find that to be lame as it's only used as an attack vector against someone when you want to label them the bad p word. Ultimately, highly-stylized drawings of cartoon characters aren't real so why are we fussed about the age of aforementioned fictional characters? Not only is the character not real but neither is the age that the writer labeled them. It's all just fiction/fantasy, which is why Josh gets so hung up on the anime and manga stuff. Still, it's funny to see Josh still overcompensating for his past.

He would've turned 17 in the same year, then 18 in late 2010, meaning that Jewsh was 18 and a half at the time of making the post about this 11 year old Rebecca character and his "affinity" to them, unless he was actually 16 in late 2009, meaning he would've been 17 and a half instead. 17 or 18? I don't think it matters too much IMHO.

Would Jewsh give the same leeway to anyone else in this situation that he would give himself? I Doubt it, he deserves every ounce of shit he may get from this.

Nobody would care half as much if he just owned up to it and quit using the "I wuz a CHILD!" excuse (protip 18-19 is not a child unless you want to admit you let children have Kiwi accounts). He cannot accept he was fully responsible for his actions and he was a sane (for a given value I suppose) adult jerking it to drawings of little boys being raped. Either way, sounds like part of his scorn for all things Japanese comes from him being filtered by the language and cultural barrier. To be completely fair, Japanese is going to be hard for English speakers because Japanese and English have little in common as far as phonemes are concerned (sounds in languages that sound similar to each other despite being different languages).

Someone who speaks a Romance language (especially Spanish) is going to have an easier time learning Japanese because a language like Spanish has phonemes that are strikingly similar to Japanese (because English speaking people have a hard time rolling their Rs).

Romance language speakers (especially Spanish speakers) are going to have an easier time learning Japanese than an English speaker. In other words, the illegal immigrant brown-skinned gardener working on the outdoor landscape of some white guy's mansion can easily learn Japanese because Spanish has more in common with Japanese as far as phonemes is concerned than English does.

It's the same with Japanese people where the Japanese can easily pick up Spanish better than they do with English because Japanese and Spanish have a lot in common.

So it's no surprise that Jersh had a lot of trouble learning Japanese because his 'Murican mind is too stupid to understand that there are sounds in languages that exist beyond the English language.

That was quick, eh? Looks like he gave up after he realized Japan was just another place and not the land of milk and honey with the deepest culture ever and an idyllic lifestyle of anime, video games, and neon lights.

Also to be fair, I don't think his "affinity" for that anime child was necessarily sexual. It looks like he was still trying to hold up anime/Japan as the solution to all his problems and chose a character to obsess over, like a castaway clinging to flotsam, in hopes it would light some spark that would turn around his life.
