Probably because they heard of Null telling New Zealand to suck a lemon, and thought that KF was a genuine right wing haven. And Null encouraging it as a free speech paradise didn't help.
What I find funny is that whenever kiwis bemoan about how the site has become infested with "right-wing trumptards" they almost never pin the blame on Null despite this.
I guess the culture of Null ass-kissing is baked into the userbase regardless of politics.
