Looking at the 4chan news, the only things I can say is keep your shit up to date and shut the fuck up if you are going to commit any kind of crime on the Internet.

It seems 4chan was using an outdated version of OpenBSD in which they haven't updated since 2016, a big cybersecurity fuck up on their part.

However, it seems the leaks show that they do have in contact with the glowies so if the Sharty is responsible for the hack (which is showing to be obvious) then it may not be the smartest move on their part because you don't fuck with feds and you don't fuck with the allies of the feds. Remember, 4chan is an American-based website protected by the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 so I'm sure the 4chan admins and Hiro himself are collecting evidence to report their findings to CISA and the FBI as we speak. 4chan also does talk to the feds and reports any bad actors on their platform to the feds (and most likely they are talking to the feds about this breach).

It's also not a smart move by the Soyteens to post soyjack memes because if there is going to be a criminal investigation against the people that did this (and there most likely will be one) then it won't take much for the feds to subpoena the Sharty's hosting providers and servers to collect evidence. I know for a fact the Sharty prohibits Tor and VPN users from posting on the Sharty and you have to use a real home IP address to post there based on what people told me about the Sharty; so if the feds get a search warrant to search the Sharty's back end then anyone on the Sharty openly taking responsibility for this will be put on some government watchlist where the glowies will watch their every move and possibly arrest them (because the feds will have their IP doxes on file).

So what lessons can be learned from this?

If you are going to commit any kind of cybercrime, don't openly admit your affiliations (posting soyjak memes shows affiliation to a community and in this case it's the Sharty) and don't openly brag about your exploits (you will get caught because humans make mistakes and especially if you are public about it; bragging about your crimes online is horrible OPSEC, some of the Internet most notable cybercriminals end up getting busted because they talk too much).

Always update your shit for cybersecurity reasons and don't get lazy with your OPSEC. Updating your devices and software can be annoying and sometimes a pain in the ass but a few minutes to half an hour or a few days of your time to update your shit is worth it to prevent or mitigate a cyberattack like this.

4chan is 100% talking to the FBI about this hack as we speak, judging by personal experience with these sorts of things. Feds crack down on hacking super hard, especially with major sites like 4chan and especially when payment information and PII is scraped.

Sharty and/or its backend providers will 100% get subpoenas for the hacker's IP and possibly other users who were doxing, dehashing passwords, and trying to hack janny accounts. The hacker will be arrested, as the feds will find you even if they were hiding behind 10 proxies and TOR, and likely be charged with felony hacking charges and face up to 10 years in prison.

The Sharty itself is likely fucked, especially considering they have a /raid/ board dedicated to doxing and hacking random people and especially considering the stickied the thread posted about the illegal hack. At best, the Feds will crawl up the Sharty's ass and force them to make significant changes to the site, such as deleting /raid/ and cracking down on doxes and posts about illegal activities. At worst, the FBI seizes the Sharty's servers altogether and kill the site. On top of this, 4chan has grounds for suing the Sharty for aiding and supporting the hack. Considering the Sharty is strapped for cash as is, they likely wouldn't survive to see a final ruling on the lawsuit, even if they did win it.

As for Kiwi Farms, they could see some clapback from this as well, since Kiwi Farmers was involved in dehashing many of the passwords and the Sharty regularly posted KF screenshots to aid them in doxing and trying to hack jannies. Also, Null gave full support of the hacking by unbanning numerous formerly permabanned soyteens and embedding a celebratory Miku GIF in the thread. There's a good chance that Kiwi Farms get subpoenaed to give out the information of the users who were dehashing passwords and doxing jannies. There's also a chance that 4chan's lawyers could go after Null and Kiwi Farms as well for doxing jannies and putting them in a position where they could potentially get harmed or harassed. 4chan has far more money than anyone who has tried suing Kiwi Farms in the past, even Liz Fong Jones, and the lawsuit would be a huge financial burden on Null regardless of outcome.

No, Cloudflare only prevents DDoS attacks. It doesn't prevent actual hacks. When Kiwi Farms lost Cloudflare for example, they were suddenly hit with a bunch of DDoS attacks, overloading the servers and causing a ton of downtime for weeks on end.

Cloudflare provides hosting services and DDoS protections, they can't protect you against attacks like this (it's your responsibility to ensure you've checked off everything to mitigate potential attacks like this in the future).

Since they also mentioned that Jersh is allowing his own users to dehash passwords to gain access to janny emails and accounts, I'd imagine that won't be a good look for Jersh should he be indicted by a court of law (unauthorized access or attempted access to sensitive data like an email address is still a crime).

AFAIK he didn't "leak" the welper DMs, that was voluntary on the user but he absolutely reads them and has talked about doing it sometime back. His ofcom response was offputing though.

In 2019 there was a major hack that leaked the emails of a ton of users, much like the current 4chan hack. So many people were affected that Null offered anyone who wanted it a chance to get their account deleted for security reasons, which lead to a lot of oldfag users leaving the site. It was probably the last nail in the coffin towards KF becoming the mess it is now.

Why did Josh sweep for Rekieta for so long, even when a huge chunk of his users on the Farms had started alogging Rekieta? Because Josh was Rekieta's online friend who had made many podcast appearances on Rekieta's show. And in private, Rekieta had referred his personal lawyer to Josh. So in a strange way, there was a sort of secret conspiracy between Rekieta and Josh. Josh would sweep for Rekieta and resist alogging him while Rekieta started to dabble in drugs and swinging perversions and sex tourist trips to Hedonism2 in Jamaica. And in return Josh could retain Rekieta's lawyer and continue getting free exposure and publicity on Rekieta's show with a large nightly audience. Why did this greasy alliance fall apart? Because both Rekieta and Josh are idiots. Rekieta went increasingly insane from drugs, alcohol, sexual perversion, and hubris. Josh did his usual routine of not being able to maintain a relationship or friendship as a spergy retard. He felt the need to rebel against Rekieta since Rekieta felt like a surrogate father figure Josh never had.

So Josh's reality-distortion-field is so strong he can convince users of the opposite of reality. Damn, where can I find suckers like this that will give me their cash? They'd believe the sky is red instead of blue, so long as Josh said so.
