Sorry for the late reply, but I think KF failed because of the killer combination of Jersh's ego and a userbase that was increasingly out of control. Post-merge newbies didn't understand the site's culture and stirred shit up at the worst possible times instead of sitting back and letting things like the Keffals situation cool. I think Josh started to believe his own legend and really did believe he was defending free speech. That hubris will bite you every time. It was inevitable that he'd eventually paint himself into a corner.
