Pretty much. Or at the very least quit obsessing over it and become a normal fan depending on the fandom. Like star trek again for instance since it's just a show. People can still watch it on occasion but they most likely sold all their toy collection because their wife thought it was lame, they needed space and money, and the relationship is more important than dumb toys. But for shit like my little pony or table top games they sweep it under the rug out of embarrassment or simply don't have time to participate due to responsibility. Can't exactly get together with your old nerd buddies very often if you all have a wife job and kids and when you do it would typically be to kick back relax and shoot the shit talking about old times and their current lives.
