>Culture war and people being offended.
Mortal Kombat was controversial in the 90's because it was hyperviolent and had lots of blood and gore. Doom was controversial because it let you kill demons with weapons in first person mode and basically invented fps's. Harry Potter books were controversial among a type of Christian because it had witches and wizards casting spells and that was scary to them, blasphemous, and sacrilegious. Some people wanted these things censored or banned. To name a few examples.
Every Grand Theft Auto game has always been controversial (at least since the series exploded in popularity with GTA3). GTA San Andreas was especially-controversial when it released because modders hacked the game and found the "hot coffee" unused code where developers toyed with the concept of a dating gameplay option of inviting people into your house in the game to have sex. Soccer Moms everywhere were enraged! Even if your Mom couldn't name 5 games you played besides Mario, she knew about Hot Coffee because the media riled her up about it. And it's going to be a little controversial later this year when GTA6 is released. I'm sure the game will let you pick up prostitutes, go to strip clubs and get lapdances, run over people with cars, murder civilians in the street, go on shooting sprees, steal cars, attack cops, do drugs, and whatever else. But here's the thing. GTA is now THE MAINSTREAM ENTERTAINMENT CULTURE. It's not some obscure thing getting censored that has 100 buyers worldwide that no one has heard of. It's probably going to break video game records as the highest selling video game of all time. GTA 5 had 220 million sales, which is more people than most individual countries' populations on the planet. GTA is now the cultural zeitgeist and has been for many years now. It will be a cultural touchstone across different countries and cultures. Someone you know or talk to, family, friends, or work with, will be playing the game upon release. There will still be moralfags crying that the game is too violent or sexual, or is corrupting the youth. But most people will just laugh at them.
KF'ers will be impotently pouting about the game upon release in the "Community Feature Submissions" thread, which will cause Josh to have a cry session on stream as well later this year. And they'll try to beat the game down by claiming the game sucks or is woke, or whatever garbage they come up with. Or the game sucks because there are black people in the game. And they'll try to appeal to fake emotional arguments such as "Won't someone please think of the children?" or "Won't someone please think of the women?" "I can't believe this game lets you rob, exploit, and murder at-risk, marginalized, low socioeconoic groups such as sex workers." "I can't believe this game lets you target minority groups and murder them." "I can't believe this game fosters racist and harmful stereotypes to racial groups and cultures." Even though the game is a parody of modern US culture. Josh will cry even though Josh played GTA San Andreas as a kid and loved the game. The game is fantasy entertainment and art. And normal people don't want it censored for a small minority of Puritans. Now 2026 male feminist Josh's gotta pander and perform for his audience of feminist Puritans.
If you have kids or nephews/nieces you don't want to expose them to this stuff, then it's the same situation as always. It's up to you as a parent to control your kids and be a parent. It's the same with online porn, internet access, phones/tablets, tv shows, and movies. But you will see the same ragebait-grifters trying to talk about the game to ride its coattails and get the views and money by chasing the trend. Because the game will be huge and they all want the exposure and money later on in November 2026. Same with all the weeb Jap stuff.
