The question that should be asked here should not be 'Why are lolicon and shotacon becoming mainstream in the West?' The real question that should be asked here is why is Hollywood not doing better?
If there is anyone to blame for why Japanese pop culture has become a juggernaut and is taking America and the Western world by storm, the fault lies with Hollywood and the Western entertainment industry in general for not doing better.
Why is Disney and Pixar not making the next Toy Story and The Lion King? Why is Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer not making the next Rocky? Why is Lucasfilm not making the next Star Wars or Indiana Jones? Why is Warner Bros. not making the next Batman: The Animated Series? Why is Warner Bros. not hiring the next Stanley Kubrick? Why is Cartoon Network not making the next Ed, Edd n Eddy? Why is Nickelodeon not making the next Avatar: The Last Airbender? Why is DC and Marvel not making the next X-Men or Justice League? Why is Paramount not making the next The Godfather? Why is Activision not making the next Call of Duty: World at War? Why is New Cinema Pictures not making the next The Nightmare on Elm Street? The list goes on.
When you look at the current state of Western pop culture these days, it should come to the surprise of no one that the Western world is seeing the Japanificaiton of Western pop culture now.
It's similar to how the video game industry imploded in North America in the year 1983, the video game industry here was on the verge of extinction because corporate greed and short-sighted CEOs that put an emphasis on quantity over quality ruined video games for North American gamers. So Japan (a country that had a thriving video game industry during the North American 1983 crash) had to come to the rescue by picking up the pieces and filling in the roles that the American video game giants at the time once filled.
The same thing is happening here. The big Western film studios and the big Western television networks and the big Western video game developers have stopped trying and now they're being replaced by an outside force (in this case the Japanese) because the West simply doesn't want to do better to keep its soft power on the world stage now.
Why is lolicon and shotacon are starting to become normalized in the West now? Simple, the answer lies that Hollywood stopped trying and the Japanese are simply filling in the roles once occupied by these Western institutions. So do not be surpised that in the near future you start to see more anime related merchandise (including lolicon-related and shotacon-related merchandise) being sold more openly in the West and it's because (for the most part) no one cares for stuff from the West anymore.
Hollywood and the West stopped trying so now the crown of soft power is being taken from America and the West and is being given to the Japanese, it's as simple as that.

people don't want to admit it but this is pretty much it, like a big reason tumblr went all in on Doctor Who/Supernatural/Sherlock is because those cheap ass shows from the uk were allowed a lot more freedom because of how cheap they were and there was tons of episodes of content for people to get addicted to. You couldn't make a Sherlock in the US of the same caliber because the costs involved would mean you'd have to dumb it down and add woke bullshit and it would be a different show altogether, like Elementary is a pretty average procedural
Ever since the writers strike and 2008 in general, the West and especially the US doesn't have people willing to piss away tens of millons on concepts and its impossible to get mid-budget projects off the ground, which used to be america's bread and butter.
Because of that you end up with a modern popculture that refuses to take risks and listens to focus groups and ends up with shit like The Marvels where the women are in outfits that don't show off their bodies, the plots dogshit, the cast is ugly, and there is DEI and woke elements everywhere and it costs $300 million and flops at the box office.
They can't make the next great IP because the people involved with those usually aren't the cookie cutter, always listens to focus groups and follows the politically correct thoughts style person. Its like that apple commerical, the crazy ones are the people making shit better.
Its why something like FNAF is the closest thing to a recent IP that got huge, but it wouldn't have existed without the creator being some extremely christian, texas white dude who was working at the dollar store.
A great example of this is comedy, the podcast boom and especially Shane Gillis rise is because mainstream media refuses to accept white guys that would have their pulse on what the american public enjoys, but people naturally find these people and get them the following they should have gotten anyway

It could perhaps be a lot of "money" — that is money in quotation marks, considering the fact that Joshua Conner Moon most probably invest his earnings, such as they are, into funny money like the dimwit he is — that Joshua and his ilk has gained from cryptocurrency, but I would advise you all to be deeply skeptical of this line of thought.
When I first registered my user on the Kiwifarms back in 2019/2020, I used to hold the belief that the administrator, Joshua, was at least somewhat suave and cultured, considering the many hardships that navigating the website through the difficulty of the Internet and its more sordid aspects would surely bring.
It was only after having been registered on there for some years, and after having had the misfortune of having communicated directly with Joshua on at least one occasion, that I understood that Joshua is actually nothing more than a fat and effeminate retard who is as dumb as he believes he is smart, which of course means that he is very dumb.
I'm not saying this merely to blow off some steam. I'm saying this to communicate the fact that Joshua is clearly — objectively — dumb as fuck.
For example, he once posted at length of how he had read this and that about the Ottoman Empire some years ago, yet this was merely the result of him having read one measly book on the complex workings of the Ottoman Empire.
I can't post the direct links to these posts since it was so long ago and I've lost count of his moronic postings in the midst of it all, but the gist of it all was that he truly took pride in ostensibly understanding the functions of the Ottoman Empire, despite only having read some surface-level book about it.
These postings of him perfectly encapsulates the retard that is Joshua Conner Moon. He believes himself to be an expert of many a things after having read only the most basic and surface-level things about them.
