To be honest, Id advise people to just get a desk job or fix the A/C if they join the military but i cant deny the allure of proving your strength as i made that same choice myself. One way or another its best to get that itch out when youre still young.

I honestly just want meaning and respect from other people, with the added bonus of potentially killing terrorists.

I mostly really want to prove to myself that I matter. The military, especially special operations, offers a very clear path: suffer, grow, earn respect. No ambiguity, that's it. Just you, your limits, and whether you can overcome them. That kind of structure, pain, and meaning is addicting when you've lived most of your life feeling like a joke or a disappointment.
Yknow what, man, I agree actually.

Most people would call us narcissistic but I think it’s pretty normal to desire to be praised and respected. For me, the army just sounds so boring that it’s not what I wanna do to get that. Instead I do shit like donating, helping the homeless, being a shoulder to cry on. Even if I don’t care about other humans, it’s just nice to respected, especially if you’ve been bullied or something for most of your life.

Just as important as service, if not more. Remember, helping out people of your country isn't a competition, as long as we're all doing it we will lift each other up.
