Most importantly, it's now considered obscene these to make fun of the mentally ill.
Autism? Cerbal Palsy? Microcephaly? Fetal Alcohol Syndrome? These are things about a person that they simply cannot change about themselves. It's like asking a horse not to drink water anymore or telling a bird not to fly.
So by the 2010's as mental health awareness became a thing, it was seen as both obscene and a low thing to do to make fun of someone that has a condition they simply cannot change about themselves. So now and days more people feel pity for the mentally ill and they want to come up with ways for the mentally ill to better cope with their disabilities so it doesn't hinder their everyday lives.
It's like beating up a cripple, sure you've won but you also look like a jackass in the end because the cripple had no chance in fighting back and you're seen as a coward for attacking someone that cannot defend themselves.

Lots of psychiatrists are absolutely pill-pushers and head meds really are overprescribed today, especially for women. Disorders are overdiagnosed, especially autism, for a variety of reasons. People these days absolutely are taught, through social norms and sometimes explicit instruction, that they can use psych disorders as excuses for lack of personal development and shitty behavior and it shows.
However, that doesn't mean the field is a scam or has no value, in the same way that opioid overprescription didn't mean that the general medical field was all fake scam shit. Despite the missteps the state of mental health as a field has been climbing steadily, and public awareness/knowledge of mental health issues in particular has been growing very quickly in a much better direction than even a few decades ago. It's just that, like with everything, there are skeezy fuckers trying to make a buck, lunatic narcissists trying to use it for power games, dumbfuck teens trying to replace their lack of personality with it, lazy parents who would rather blame it than give their kid more attention than a pet fish, etc.

Unlike the hard sciences (Biology, Physics, Astronomy, etc), soft sciences like Psychology only do real science when it comes to how to objectively treat a mental illness.
The reason why Psychology is considered a soft science is because it only does science to find humane treatments to treat the mentally ill but then does the 'Feels Over Reals' meme to push for stupid shit.
