Kiwifarms diversified from purely lolcows a long time ago. Celebrity gossip and current events? Kiwifarms already does this. A one dimensional lolcow forum just doesn't make it. You can have your cozy comfy place to talk about cows. But I need to look at the larger picture.

I get what you're saying, but I think @Time 4 Guillotines is right. You're basically trying to make OnionFarms just another ho-hum gossip site, and there's tons of those already. Hell, people can just go on Reddit or Twitter or a private Discord server to gossip about the same old shit. And how many more of those do you need? Current events? Same thing. You can't build a forum on shit talking Josh? That's basically the only reason why you made this forum in the first place, isn't it? To get one over him?

I know you mean well, Ken, but I don't really know how you could make OnionFarms stand out in any real way. And even if you did, the usual suspects will crop up. They'll see folks using the naughty words and get uppity, and I doubt you'd want to fall into the trap of dumbing down the site, so to speak.

Onionfarms is already better than kiwifarms without trying and less users because josh isn't here to ruin it so there isn't anything wrong with setting it apart more than just being the better alternative.

And the people whinging about "muh onions farm now only about kiwi farms and null", people are gonna talk about what they want to talk about. If you wanna talk about something else, go ahead, nobody is suppressing it 🤣

This is the root of my point. This community will never be palatable to normalfags. Imagine some 45 year old housewife stumbled in here knowing nothing about lolcow culture, trolling and especially op-sec. They're going to have a bad time pretty quickly. I enjoy the old Internet feel of a mostly unrestricted community but that's increasingly incompatible with polite society.
The userbase could possibly be expanded by accommodating people from other anti-social media sites but it's a dying breed. We're adjacent to KF, rdrama.net, new.onaforums.net, The Sharty, whatever that boomer forum where Tommy Tooter trolling originated is, various other image boards, probably some other people I'm forgetting.
To gain reach outside of these back corners of the Internet you'd pretty much have to purge everyone here, completely rebrand, hide the fact that Ken is admin, divorce from everything Kiwi Farms, moderate like a corporate friendly site and generally just suck.
To give this forum staying power the focus would likely have to be on becoming palatable to zoomers/Gen Alpha. I also resent skibidi dipshits but from a cynical standpoint they're a growing demographic while millennials/Gen X/boomers are literally dying out as the years keep slipping by.
But zoomers aren't going to be stoked about using such an unaesthetic forum that's so difficult to navigate where "Guys! We're going to be really shaking things up! Get stoked for new content!" means paying Africans to write clickbait style articles about shit no one cares about.
We'd be better served by paying Empresa and letting him reformat the forum.
Instead of adding nonsensical content, fix the glaring issues that everyone's bitched about and double down on the niche we fill

Oh, I agree, don't get me wrong. I guess I just see both sides of the argument, that's all. I can see where Time's coming from and Ken, too, that's all.

I think the problem is that you'd have a hard time trying to bring those people from those sites here, because they likely are too accustomed to those sites, and wouldn't see any real reason to come here. What could we offer that they couldn't already get there? It goes both ways because just like the average person can go on Reddit or Lipstick Alley or wherever to get their gossip fix, the average "KF-adjacent" person could go to one of those sites. And it's not like I disagree vehemently with Ken, because I'm sure he means well and is just trying to keep his interest in running the site up, but I think the example of the housewife there will be a problem. They, too, will mean well, but then they'll run into posters (myself included) using no-no words, and then poof! There goes their interest, and who's to say we won't have someone trying to mess with the site a la KF (for the sake of argument)? And who's to say that if we bring in KF-adjacent folks, they won't try to suck the fun out themselves? Remember that KF got done in by Josh's autistic fixation on bringing in everyone like KF was this big tent, only for the /pol/tards to put it to the torch so badly he brought in Lidl and their merry band of radfems...

I think it's a rock and a hard place scenario here. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

No I don't want to dumb it down. Let's just say it occurred to me that Josh doesn't have a monopoly on fun.

I get your point, but fun? I don't think there's been any fun on KF for a long, long time. The only monopoly he has is on faggotry. Remember that even 4chan thinks KF is too out there for them. It's all because "tranny jannies," though, I'm sure.

As far as the glaring issues: The biggest is we have too many sub-forums. And to be honest, this is something I will take ownership of and work on reducing the sub-forums by merging a lot of them. I have actually been working on this and the forum now looks a lot flatter and simpler than before. And personally I think this is bearing positive results.

I know we are adjacent to KF, the onaforums, lolcow.farm and so forth. The person I chose to help with the Nigerian stuff is from Lagos, Nigeria and yes she is a zoomer. She is not doing clickbait. From her first post, it is more on the line of starter material. We are not really "shaking things up". Let's just say it is kind of exploratory to see what lies beneath the surface. And Nigeria is as good a place to start as any. Let me put this in perspective. If you go to KF International clique you will see a lot of lolcows who are from Brazil. And Brazil is pretty much on the money like Nigeria. It has 214.3 million people. Nigeria is 213.4 million. The Brazilian press has considerable autonomy and it is the type of country where the society is kind of open about spilling its spaghetti. And KF is getting a lot of milk from its international forum. But there is one advantage we have with Nigeria. Nigeria was originally a British colony which means the official language is English. Brazil on the other hand was not. It was Portuguese. So it is not quite as far fetched as it seems on first glance. But someone mentioned money and this person was correct. Simply put I could not afford US reporter so I chose Nigeria because it is within my budget.

As far as the nature of this forum is concerned, it has actually been brought up by an acquaintance of mine. Basically her viewpoint was why do you hang out with this group of the armpit of the internet? Don't you want to associate with a better class of people. Well...the best answer I could give her was that when I set up the forum, I didn't choose the forum, it chose me when the culture came over here to make its home. Yes I know that is going to be widely debated that I chose to join Kiwifarms and associate with CWC.

And then she said why not just dump this completely and start over with a higher class forum. I told her that a lolcow forum operates by an entirely different culture compared to a regular forum. You just can't dump this and start over with a "higher class" forum. It just doesn't work that way. If I want a more mainstream forum, I have to start a second separate forum (Onionfarms.online) that will distance itself from the lolcow culture and be more mainstream while still being connected to here (Onionfarms.com). If I purged everything KF related here, there would be no point going on. It would simply end up as a dead shell of a forum.

I'd do the sections like this:

1. Lolcows (threads about individual weirdos)
2. Threads about Kiwi Farms and potentially other online communities as a whole.
3. Current Events to sperg out about specific news events and tinfoil hat shit goes here (your country threads probably belong here too tbh)
4. Off topic bucket where people can ask each other what they made for dinner and which hand they jack off with or w/e

I think with the size of this forum's active user base, we don't need a lot more than that. When people see things move and update, it gives an incentive to check and come back. Having a separate subforum for each individual thread just makes the place look dead.

If any one section started to get a huge preponderance of threads on one topic, like vidja games or cooking, that's the signal to create a specific subforum for that one topic, rather than trying to anticipate what the popular topics of discussion might be and creating them early.

Yeah. That's a good point. But I think having only 4 is cutting it too close.
