First of all, I really appreciate your engagement with what I have to say. Part of why I had grievances with Kiwi Farms was because I believed that, in a strange way, I was being “censored” myself. I couldn’t change my username, or profile picture, in fact, my profile picture was changed to revenge porn of me, that someone from the forum had spent months coercing me and extorting out of me.
Every time I spoke, I was met with responses that seemed completely out of context, or baseless, however logical, or thought through my posts were, I was accused of being a schizo, BPD, and a liar. By the end of it, I felt as if a narrative was being pushed, to paint me as non-credible, stupid or crazy, for a number of reasons:
- I’m a lolcow, and people believe this is the “correct” treatment.
- I’ve done stupid shit in the past, like buying followers or lying in attempts to get my thread down. All of these were things I’d done as a teenager.
- There were people who knew I wasn’t a liar, and the data I had was credible. They feared me leaking this, and painting me as a liar was easier than potentially facing the swallowing of an uncomfortable truth in the future.
- What I said, didn’t fit in line with the narrative people wanted to believe in.
Because of this, I felt there was no point in being there because it had gotten to a point where I wasn’t even being treated as a human being anymore. My profile was more restricted than I’ve ever experienced on any other platform, my posts out of my thread were instantly moved back to my thread where they didn’t even belong, my profile picture was literally changed to revenge porn extortion content of me, and my DMs were locked.
To me, that isn’t freedom and that is the very definition of censorship.
I know one may make the argument that free speech or anti censorship doesn’t extend to Lolcows in this sector, but I believe this is a spineless argument.
You’re either pro free speech or not pro free speech. There is no selectivity when it comes to this, and the selectivity of free speech, profile perms and expression, was so heightened that KF had become a hierarchy. Lolcow or not, if you believe in free speech, you believe in this as a concept across the board. It is not possible to claim “rules apply to thee but not to me”.
I completely understand where you are coming from, but bare in mind you are coming from the perspective of a farmer, and one of the “good guys”.
I did not experience the level of freedom and Liberty you did, or describe.
By definition, KF does not support free speech, and censors an awful lot more than even centralised platforms like Facebook or Instagram do.
You made a point about some users going too far, this, I agree with.
I mostly like the users on KF, but it really only takes a few bad apples spinning a narrative, committing crimes or being truly disgusting, to unfortunately taint the reputation or image of a website.
I am absolutely not blind to the fact that there are wonderful people on that site, who filled it with funny memes, anecdotes and owns. But that site is also home to people like the person who extorted me, coerced me, blackmailed, sexually exploited me, posted deepfakes/revenge porn of me.
The jannies saw no issue with this, and even changed the content, which was obtained illegally, to my profile picture permanently.
Having to have what felt like a virtual sexual assault documented on my thread was psychologically traumatic and way below the belt.
This encouraged the groomer, and people who had done this to me.
On top of this, people seemed to find it awfully amusing, calling me crazy, even stating I was in the wrong, or deserved it, or was gullible or stupid, despite the fact that thousands of women every year become the victims of sexual exploitation. That doesn’t make them crazy. It makes the people who do it to them crazy.
There was an extreme focus on laughing and criticising me, and almost no focus on dragging the disgusting predator who had done this, or even finding them out.
I was banned from the site, and the Telegram. This felt confusing to me as I felt like I was being punished for … being sexually abused..?
I am the last person to be a snowflake, SJW or protest against free-speech, but what happened to me felt like a human right violation, and I have PTSD due to it.
These bad apples are not the whole site, not at all, but they commit crimes that make it impossible for people like me to support or defend the site any further without looking like a literal doormat, or hurting my own dignity and morals.
I really wish I could still see things from your perspective, but after seeing people talk about how “no crimes have been proven to have taken place on Kiwi Farms”
I feel as though people are flat out bullshitting, as someone who experienced a massive federal crime, that could only have been from a user of the site.
