Look, half the internet acts like Miyazaki’s some ancient sage who speaks for all artists just because he saw that god-awful crawling-zombie AI demo back in 2016 and said it was an insult to life itself. Fair enough, the thing was disgusting, but the guy barely touches the internet, Ghibli tried Twitter for one year and noped out like it kicked their dog, and he’s spent decades running his studio like a guy who thinks electricity is suspicious. That’s what an actual healthy studio looks like.

I’m not saying Miyazaki’s movies don’t hit harder than anything else out there (they do), but let’s stop treating one old man’s trauma from a single creepy demo like it’s the final word on tools forever. The future isn’t grandpas yelling at crayons; it’s the places that figure out how to make great art without treating people like garbage. He can keep his pencils. The rest of us will keep moving.

Going back to this topic, I find it really concerning that Miyazaki thinks it would be a good thing for society to collapse and humanity lives like it did long before we entered the Industrial Revolution.

Miyazaki said it himself that he thinks humanity would be better off having the industrial world collapse and he would prefer to live like a hermit in the wilderness surrounded by grass and never have to deal with the modern world ever again (this isn't some Henry David Thoreau kind of philosophy, what Miyazaki believes in politically is borderline batshit insane).

The extremist environmentalism that Miyazaki believes in sounds eerily similar to the anti-technology philosophy that was promoted by Ted Kaczinski (aka the Unabomber).

I think the only reason why Miyazaki didn't became an eco-terrorist is probably because his hobby and passion for animation in general is what is distracting him from going full Ted Kaczinski on Japan.

I think that if Miyazaki didn't became a film maker making award winning anime films then Miyazaki would've probably chosen a different (and darker) path by becoming an eco-terrorist where he would probably build bombs and mailing them to people in Japan he thinks are enslaving humanity and he would've ended up becoming Japan's version of the Unabomber in this hypothetical scenario.

It also does not help that Japan is having an epidemic crisis with people getting killed by wild bears because they no longer fear humans.

There's a thought I've been having.

It's kind of weird to say, but it feels like when SSJ_Ness got banned, the soul of Kiwifarms died and the site truly entered its death throes.

I'm not gonna say Ness is innocent--he absolutely said stupid shit and deserved that ban--but the weird thing is that sometimes Ness could be the most reasonable person in the room.

I recall once talking about Ranma 1/2 with him, an anime where most Kiwis look at the premise and call it "tranny shit," but Ness was one of the few people who understood that something can have a gender-bend premise and not have anything to do with trans stuff.

And this was Kiwifarms in a nutshell: half the time it was stupid, the other half the time they were some of the most reasonable people online.

While the forum had been losing its mind before Ness was kicked, it feels like his booting accelerated it.
