So my mom works at a casino, nothing really that special, just basic floor staff stuff, but she just so happened to bump into a Marine recruiter there while on shift. Total coincidence. They got to talking, and she brought me up. Turns out the guy's squared away, actually gave her his info and told her to pass it on to me.
What caught my attention is that he immediately talked shit about my current recruiter, saying he "takes the job too seriously" and doesn’t follow up with potential applicants. I can vouch for that, that nigger never reaches out to me and acts like he's got better things to do. But this new recruiter says he'd do anything to get me in. Seems motivated, and honestly that’s what I need right now, someone who actually gives a shit and treats it like more than a quota game.
I'm still working on getting my GED and waivers sorted, but this gave me a bit of new energy. I'm also seriously weighing making a full career out of the military. Enlist for 4–6 years, get a degree with my GI Bill, and if I like the military lifestyle, maybe try to commission and go officer. If not, I pivot, at least I'll have the experience, the discipline, and no debt hanging over my head.
We'll see. Just thought it was wild how things line up like that sometimes.
