Somali community in MN demanding reparations over “ICE trauma”
Organizers from Neighbors United gathered Friday to call for direct grants to small immigrant, Black, and brown-owned businesses hit by Operation Metro Surge, a Trump-era ICE operation that led to over 4,000 arrests targeting criminal noncitizens, gang members, and fraud tied to the $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal. Protests followed reports of two civilian deaths and $200 million in estimated economic damage, as cited by Mayor Jacob Frey. Meanwhile, Reps. Ilhan Omar and Angie Craig found an empty ICE facility after planned visits, with officials confirming a drawdown to fewer than 500 agents and slower deportations.
