The Mormon is right about how gay themes do not belong in children's shows, but it has nothing to do with the USSR because homosexuality was defacto illegal since it was deemed a fascist and bourgeois perversion. Being fair here, the USSR would be the first country in human history to decriminalize homosexuality under Vladimir Lenin after the Bolshevik Revolution.

But this didn't last long because after Lenin died, when Stalin took over he reversed this and he made homosexuality illegal in the USSR again.

Stalin believed that for Communism to become a strong force in the world then it also needed a strong family unit model. Stalin would heavily promote social conservatism where the Soviet government would heavily promote the traditional nuclear family to encourage Soviet citizens to make more communist children.

Whatever benefits homosexuals had during the rule of Lenin was stripped away by Stalin where Stalin gave Soviet gays and lesbians an ultimatum, either they get married to someone of the opposite gender and produce children for the Soviet state or they will be thrown into the gulags where they will be made useful through forced labor (being gay did not grated you a shield from Stalin's wrath).

Even after Stalin died, other communist countries would follow suit. Most communist countries (former and present) had anti-gay policies where they adopted a strictly utilitarian view on family; if you refused to start a family and have children then they would send you into forced labor because you were going to be made useful to the state one way or another (Stalin infamously put gays and lesbians that refused to become heterosexual into forced labor because if homosexuals in the USSR weren't going to start a family then they were going to be useful in the gulags through soul crushing forced labor instead).

Even if said communist country doesn't adopt full blown Stalinism, most likely homosexuals would still face discrimination anyway. I highly doubt the show puts any sexual themes in it. More likely, the show is trying to expand its audience and reach more people. If someone has a problem with two moms being shown, then they should just say they have different values or that it makes them uncomfortable.
Personally, I don’t care who the kid’s parents are as long as the kid is 1) loved, 2) cared for, and 3) protected, etc.
The whole “pedo” argument is really dumb for obvious reasons. Society used to be structured around the man being the head of the household, and now look at how many shows either focus on women or portray both parents as equal heads of the family. This might sound like something a teacher would say, but society isn’t going to stay the same forever. As humanity expands and technology evolves, social structures will be replaced with others that are stronger or better adapted. Your lifestyle may be different from your parents’, and it won’t stay the same forever either it will adapt to change. What was once a minority can become a majority.

the problem with the USSR is that its authoritarian nature means that talking about it shouldn't be like how we talk about western democracies but how we talk about countries under kings. No one brings up examples from Charles I rule when talking about england under William and Mary because its obvious they're totally different.
