Well, my opinion is that that's part of a bigger trend of nerds overcompensating and pretending they're rugged individuals with larpy hobbies like... fuck... fishing, shooting at cans and cutting wood? Fishing is not as "rugged" as one might think. It doesn't take a manly man to put bait on a hook and wait for the fish to bite while you get a suntan. I've seen plenty of women fish on piers and boats, granted not as often as men.
