Should it really surprise anyone that younger generations of a religion that live in a liberal democracy are likely to leave it?

This isn't exclusive to Islam, you see this with other religions where the moment a youngster gains access to the Internet or libraries or other sources of information not dictated by their local religious community, they may stop believing in their religion.

What is Islam's greatest strength? The Quran mandates that under Sharia law that you must establish a government based on Islamic teaching, there is no room for secularism. If you look at Muslim countries, part of the reason why they're still stuck in the 7th century is because most Islamic countries refuse to abolish their theocracies so this means it's next to impossible for a Muslim in those countries to leave the religion as there are severe consequences for doing so.

But if a Muslim (especially a young Muslim) live in a country like America or a country in Western Europe or any liberal demcoracy; the moment they discover the Internet and learn about Islam for what it really is then they'll question their faith. They'll feel more encouraged to leave Islam when they realize that the secular liberal democracy they live in doesn't force anyone to practice Islam or any religion for that matter. In a free country, no one is pointing a gun to your head just to have you worship a deity.

You see the same thing with other religious groups. Many young Mormons are leaving Mormonism when they realize that Joseph Smith was a pedophile degenerate. Many young people are leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses because the Jehovah's Witnesses are a destructive cult.

This is not me advocating for Atheism. Some former religious members may end up converting to another religion they feel the most comfortable with. Many ex-Mormons flee to Catholicism or Evangelicalism. Many ex-Muslims may leave Islam for Christianity. Many ex-Christians may flee to Buddhism. People in general always want to feel some form of spiritual connection.

Some ex-Muslims may become atheist/agnostic but a lot of them also flee to other religions they feel is more fair and just than Islam.
