I feel like when any online community gets too political, it becomes a hugbox to the point where the more reasonable voices are bullied out of a community and what you have left are skitzo retards that fedpost too close to the Sun.
Take the Cringe Community as an example. If you know anything about the Internet during the 2010's, one phenomena that was prevalent back in the day was cringe content. Basically cringe content was people featuring random lolcows doing crinheworthy things to laugh at them. Nothing was off the table with cringe content; be it religious people, atheists, furries, gamers, weebs, movie buffs, comic book readers, home cooks, computer nerds, you name it.
However, what made the Cringe Community see their painful and brutal decline was them getting too political. The Far-Right would start to infiltrate the Cringe Community and converted them to things like neo-Nazism and Fascism in general. This resulted in more people in the Cringe Community beginning to self-radicalize themselves and started to fedpost too close to the Sun.
By that point the Cringe Community was no longer about laughing at retards anymore, they started to promote a lot of IRL A-Logging towards their victims (a big no-no when it comes to trolling). Some in the Cringe Community started to harass Jews IRL, some started to swat their victims that were featured in a cringe post, and some began to stalk their cringe victims IRL. Some of the stuff the Cringe Community did at the time was either crossing the line when it came to ethics or just flat out committing crimes against lolcows in the name of an extremist political ideology. Platforms like Youtube and Reddit would crack down hard on the Cringe Community because the Cringe Community failed to gatekeep their crazies out of their community (this would be one of the reasons why platforms like Youtube would expand their hate speech policies because the Cringe Community at the time flew too close to the Sun with their antics). The Cringe Community is still around but they're now a shell of its former self and they're nowhere near as big compared to how they were a decade ago.
This brings us to Kiwi Farms. The Kiwi Farms of a decade ago would've laugh at the Kiwi Farms of today because the Kiwis of back then made fun of everyone equally; it didn't matter if you were a left-wing communist or a right-wing Nazi because back then the Kiwis saw both extremes as equally laughable.
Now and days? Many of the old Kiwis got bullied out of the farms as Jersh would invite more and more far-right lunatics that turned Kiwi Farms from a platform dedicated to laughing at retards into a hugbox that sucks Trump's dick 24/7.
In a lot of ways, Kiwi Farms and Jersh have a lot in common with Lowtax and Something Awful. Much like how Something Awful became a far-left hugbox for troons because Lowtax scared away the rational voices away from Something Awful during its final years of being relevant, Jersh would do the same with Kiwi Farms where he would scare away the more rational voices away from Kiwi Farms and turning Kiwi Farms into a far-right hugbox that are willing to ignore the fact that Trump was a close friend of Epstein if it means they can make America more white again. I guess Kiwi Farms doesn't care about pedophilia if it means letting kids being raped leads to their dream of creating a white utopia become realized (this is what happens when you let political extremists run a community because they always think the ends justify the means, even if the means are horrifying).
