An alert was issued by the FDA for some Great Value frozen raw shrimp sold at Walmart. The shrimp was processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati of Indonesia (BMS Foods). While shrimp on store shelves has not been found to be contaminated with radioactive materials, there is concern that the food may have been contaminated with Cs-137 because of unsanitary conditions. Cs-137 was found in a single shipment of shrimp that was banned from being sent to stores. The amount of Cs-137 found was 68 Bq/Kg which is below the federal intervention standard which is 1200 Bq/kg.
Cs-137 is a radioactive Cesium which comes from nuclear explosions since the first tests in 1945.
