Muh Autism Today I Learned...

Bisabo(lol)

2 Spooky
Remarkable Onion
The Onions don't really have a thread like this for TIL shitposting /effortposting, so here it is. :opeed:

Thread tax: Today I learned sin-eating was a thing while reading some 1800s folk horror (aka weird fiction) anthologies. Shit was wild.

ETA: The link is a NatGeo segment on the topic of the last known sin-eater, if you're interested.

It's crazy how they worked that into what started out as a quirky movie about a man hiring people to kill his wife. I can respect that, tho.

Show's on my to watch after I finish some other ones.
A running theme in the Fargo TV show is that there's always some weird supernatural element in every season that isn't explained.

It seems like it wouldn't work, but I think it adds to the entertainment value.

It worked for Twin Peaks (even when they explained some of it) so I can see it adding flavor, especially if that kind of thing is your jam.

I never got into twin peaks. David Lynch in general is that weird for the sake of it, avant-garde shit that people watch and pretend to completely understand the meaning of because they're too cool for the room and want to seem smart and profound.

To me I watch Eraserhead and I'm just like "what the FUCK was that about?"

But then again there are two types of people in this world: people who watch Wes Anderson movies, and people who watch Paul WS Anderson movies. And I'm the latter and proud of it.

I just enjoyed it for what it was, Lynch or no Lynch tbh. Also yeeeah, Eraserhead was definitely weird to be weird.

Everything he makes is like that dude. It's one of those things where he just makes a weird movie and nobody understands it but nobody wants to sound stupid so everybody pretends that they liked it and understood it. Wes Anderson movies are the same way, they fucking suck and are lame and boring but nobody wants to go against the art house opinion so they say it's quirky and charming.

And don't get me wrong you can make a fucked up movie and make a metaphorical statement and have an impact without being weird for the sake of it. I mean david fincher comes to mind look at fight club and seven. I don't know maybe I'm being a little too hard on David Lynch but I just don't like movies where there is an air of "what the FUCK did we just watch?" hanging in the room but everybody says how great it was.

That's an eternal scourge and it's not just David Lynch unfortunately. Some of David Lynch's stuff is definitely weird for the sake of being weird and (this is what I think anyway) at least a bit of that is on purpose. I think sometimes he produces nonsensical gobbledegook to watch people scramble to put meaning on it. Have a look at that Rabbits thing and tell me that's not a troll. The reason I think this is because I watched a short thing on youtube where David Lynch wanted to shoot something on his iPhone and spent ages making a wooden holder so he could attach it to a tripod. If I remember correctly the whole thing concludes without much talking about the movie he was trying to film on his iPhone. He comes right out and says, he's well aware that he could have bought a commercial iPhone tripod mount but it's more fun to go through the process of making it. At least some of David Lynch's garbage isn't about the final output it's about the process of making it.

That said, Blue Velvet is pretty good. Dennis Hopper's character is genuinely unsettling.

Yesterday I learned someone disappeared from work but nobody's talking about it.
An indian dude (lol half our workforce) just suddenly disappeared and his email has stopped working and no longer shows up in the active directory contact list thing, but we're apparently just treating it like he was abducted by the secret police and not mentioning it at all. I want to find out who he sexually harassed but I don't want to be the one to break kayfabe.

Cacodemons are not made of chocolate

You're thinking of cacaodemons my bro
Thanks, when I bit into one I wasn't expecting it to be a meatball. Wasn't disappointed though.

heart disease is fucking unhinged and plaque buildup can't go away unless you have heart surgery where they insert some plastic tube through your artery to shuffle the plaque out

no age is immune to it, and the plaque you build up now stays inside of your heart until you hit the grave
but like everything else they say, you can prevent it by being healthy through dwieting and exercwising but I have seen some studies saying it can shrink by 3% if you follow that lifestyle so maybe there's hope it can be cured
