Apparently I have dug up some interesting developments concerning Israel and Ukraine. Israel has not supported Ukraine during its war with Russia and this has been sitting on President’s Zelansky’s head.

April 5 2022: Al Jazeera:

Zelenskyy said he wants Ukraine to become a “big Israel”. After the war his main issue will be security. In a post war Ukraine, the armed forces with weapons will be everywhere in all the institutions, supermarkets, cinemas…

He looks to Israel as a model for Ukraine and wants close ties with the Israeli state.

Forget about a liberal European democracy such as Switzerland. In his opinion it won’t work. He stressed that Ukraine will not slide into a dictatorship. At the time, Israel had good relations with both Russia and Ukraine.

"Israel has given us nothing. Nothing. Zero," President Volodymyr Zelensky complained in an interview in September 2022.

Fast forward to 2023 and relations have been going downhill. Israel’s neutrality has been straining relations with Ukraine.

In the Kyiv Independent:

June 2023: The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel accused the country’s leadership of acting immorally by taking “a clear pro-Russian position” by not helping Ukraine more.

July 12, 2023 Zelensky said A year later, little has changed. "Months (of negotiations) have passed, but there is no result yet,"

Now Kyiv makes another accusation: It accuses Israel of mistreating its citizens inside the country, deporting over 2,000 Ukrainians in 2023 according to the embassy.

A few other things have been going on:

Israel’s foreign policy regarding Jewish immigration to Israel (and a large number of them come from Russia). Russia’s war against Ukraine has caused a huge spike in the number of Russian Jews immigrating to Israel which has now topped immigration from Ukraine.

Iran’s involvement in Ukraine. Iran has been acting as a supplier for Russia’s war in Ukraine by supplying it with hundreds of drones to attack Ukraine. And now those same drones are also attacking Israel as well. Israel initially reacted by promising to give Ukraine early-warning radar systems to help protect civilians by better detecting Russian missiles and drones in the sky.
