Afrobeats global superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared a surprising revelation about his professional interests, stating that he would likely have pursued a career in journalism if he hadn’t found success in music.

During a recent Twitch livestream with streamer Davrel, the ā€œUnavailableā€ singer discussed his fascination with storytelling and media. ā€œI like movies. I like watching movies. I would have been a journalist,ā€ he told his audience, noting that his love for documenting narratives and human interest stories could have seen him behind a news desk or a camera instead of on a concert stage.

The singer also addressed long-standing rumours regarding his political ambitions. While Davido has been a vocal supporter of his uncle, Governor Ademole Adeleke of Osun State, he admitted that his personal interest in entering partisan politics has faded. He cited the difficult transitions other entertainers have faced when crossing into the political arena as a major reason for his caution.

ā€œBefore, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways,ā€ Davido explained. ā€œAll my years of goodwill, my name and my career… it is tricky. The superstars who have gone into politics haven’t really transitioned successfully. I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is their business.ā€

The music icon expressed a desire to protect the legacy and fan base he has built over the last decade, suggesting that the ā€œtrickyā€ nature of the political space might jeopardise the cross-cultural goodwill he currently enjoys.
