Halle Berry is speaking out with honesty and boldness about a chapter of life many women silently endure. On June 9, during a Bare It All women’s health panel, the 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress opened up about her personal experience with menopause, revealing that she initially feared she’d lost her sex life for good. Speaking alongside Christina Aguilera, co-founder of the sexual wellness brand Playground — Berry recalled that she entered menopause around age 54 without any prior guidance or warning from her doctors.
“I had no idea that I was in menopause at this time of my life,” Berry said. “No doctor that I had had even mentioned the fact that I would enter into menopause... I had this unrealistic idea that maybe I would just skip it.” Berry shared that she first began experiencing vaginal dryness, a common but rarely discussed symptom of menopause, just as she was falling in love with her now-partner Van Hunt. At the time, she was devastated and feared intimacy was over for her. “I was really afraid at that time that I would never enjoy that part of my femininity again,” she admitted. “I finally found my person, and now the worst joke in the world happened to me.”
Determined to find answers, Berry dove into personal research, eventually leading her to Colette Courtion and Dr. Sarah de la Torre, the team behind Joylux, a wellness brand focused on intimate health. Through their products and support, Berry says she was able to reclaim both her physical comfort and her sex life. “They serviced my very first needs when I realized that I was in menopause. They helped me get my intimacy back and my sex life back.” Berry’s journey also sparked the growth of her own wellness brand, Respin Health, which recently partnered with Joylux to develop science-backed products addressing women’s pelvic and sexual health, including a lubricating gel and an intimacy device focused on the pelvic floor. Now, Berry is on a mission to normalize menopause conversations and end the stigma around women’s health. “It takes being bold, talking about it, being loud about it, not being afraid to talk about it, not feeling shame, giving other women permission to talk about it,” she said. “We can no longer be silent on this issue. It’s a health issue. It’s a human rights issue, and we need to fight for that.” The Catwoman star’s story is resonating widely, shining a light on the realities many women face, and the power of breaking the silence around them.
