After the recent ransom-money controversy involving activist Harrison Gwamnishu (Behind Bars Initiative), I went digging and found an interesting compilation of older allegations about him that have circulated on Nigerian Facebook for years.
This is based on an assemblage originally credited to Jennifer Chioma Owolabi (reposted widely).
If even half of this is true, the current “Tracking Chip” excuse starts to look like a pattern.

Alleged History / Timeline
1. Alleged Fake Kidnapping (Early Facebook era)
According to long-time Facebook users, Harrison allegedly faked his own kidnapping back when kidnapping stories weren’t as common in Nigeria.
The claim is that people raised money for a ransom, until it was allegedly discovered that the kidnapping story was false.
He reportedly apologized and was forgiven.
---
2. Alleged Fake Kidney Failure Fundraiser
Another old allegation is that he claimed to be suffering from kidney failure and posted photos/videos of himself crying in a hospital setting.
People allegedly donated millions to help him.
The story goes that a donor traveled to visit him in the hospital, only to find no hospitalization and that Harrison was allegedly spending the money and “cruising” instead.
He reportedly later apologized.
---
3. Allegedly Posed as a Lawyer / Bail Money Drama
Another claim is that he once posted photos wearing a lawyer’s wig and robe, leading people to believe he was a qualified lawyer.
He was allegedly called out by an activist for collecting about ₦1.5 million for bail money.
Again, the claim is that he apologized, and the issue was dropped.
---
4. Anioma Garri Investment Allegations
At some point, Harrison reportedly launched a business called Anioma Garri, where people allegedly invested money expecting product delivery.
Some investors later accused him of taking funds without delivering goods.
He reportedly refunded some and apologized.
---
5. Emotional Breakdown / Debt & Suicide Claims
There’s also an allegation that about two years ago, he posted videos crying in the bush, claiming he was deeply in debt and considering suicide.
Supporters donated money to assist.
Critics described it as emotional blackmail.
---
6. Connection to Chinmark Scam Community
Another claim is that he was a supporter of Chinmark (a Nigerian figure accused of scamming many Facebook users).
---
Important Note
To be fair, many Nigerians also claim Harrison has done real activism and helped people.
But this is why some Nigerians don’t automatically trust his “good intentions” explanations, and why the recent ransom-money accusations gained traction so quickly.
