Misery-farming content on Youtube

Hello, Onion friens. Does anyone still watch Youtube? If you do, this is a public PSA to ignore and avoid what I like to call "misery-farming" content.

Misery-farming; verb
Any Youtube (or whatever) video made with the sole (or at least major) purpose to upset the viewer so they feel the need to click on it, get angry, and comment "As a ____ this _____ phenomenon is awful, thank you for speaking on it.". This is not to be confused with videos simply stating an opinion or pushing back against a retarded phenomenon.
A good test to see if something is misery-farming or not is asking two questions: 1) Is the topic something I can do about, 2) If it is, is it something that concerns me/is any of my business?

I'd say the most popular misery-farmer is penguinz0/critikal. He used to just make videos on goofy stuff he found, but now it's just shit that he even admits he's only covering to piss off his audience as much as it pissed him off. Youtubers like Optimus and diesel patches occasionally do this also.

Remember when Youtube was so you could sit back, relax, and have a laugh? Now it's so you can "be informed", fuck that shit!

Here's some visual examples of misery-farming

(To use the guide, both fail question number one. Obviously you can't change what people post on Instagram reels and you can't catch a predator by watching a Youtube video. Also fuck niggas who prance around with and milk content out of predators rather than just get their asses arrested ASAP.)

(Fat people are often a subject of misery-farming, cause for some reason people being fat is deeply angering. This has always fascinated me cause I either don't care when I see a fat person or maybe it's funny)

("The worst piece of fiction" as if fiction isn't literally made to just be enjoyed regardless of quality. That's like saying "The worst bouncy ball to bounce bounce bounce". Also AI is very very often used in misery-farming because... Because.)

(BOOKTOK. That shit's used in misery-farming CONSTANTLY. Niggas can't mind they damn business and need to make some random woman getting off to some masked dude breaking into her house into some 40 minute moral issue about consumerism and abuse and normalizing and commodifying and commercializing and--)

TlDr; Don't let retard Youtubers make money off of ruining your day, masked with "concern" and "a desire to inform". Just watch old TF2 Gmod videos instead.

I miss the good old days of YouTube where it was the wild west, where we could post anything except for pornography and every other word was "nigger" in the comment section.

YouTube went from some kind of revolutionary phenomenon to a Google owned, sanitary internet version of Disneyland. Pretty much all major websites have done this.

YouTube fell the moment monetization wasn’t a niche one of a kind partner program but rather became handed out like it was Halloween candy. It was over when Pewdiepie could get on camera, tell people to stop using this browser, and people would not only stop using it but be genuinely offended if you still did. It’s not about broadcasting yourself anymore, everything’s fake, forced and done for money.
Whenever someone actually does fulfill the fucking tagline of the website, it’s treated like some spectacle. “This video feels so 2000s, I miss when YouTube was like this.” Yet if it suddenly did take that turn then you’d be clawing at your skin screeching for more booktok slander within 5 hours.
On that note, at the end of the day, it’s not the companies that got our online culture like this (though they did largely contribute to it). It’s us, we’re complacent like this because we get quick bursts of information and commands from perceived authorities and “okay”s to bully anyone who dosent concede to the opinion of some 1m subscriber channel. People say they want a “change” but actually the change they want is less ads and shit, they still want to eternally be a loyal pawn in misery-farming

I remember when the most "corporate" thing on YouTube was like... Angry Nintendo nerd lol. YouTube was legitimately just a place for shitty diy videos, skits filmed on crummy cameras, movie clips (sometimes entire movies) and the occasional quality content was there.

Muh algorithm and muh monetization fucked up YouTube. You can't even use words like killed or raped even in fucking TRUE CRIME VIDEOS unless you want to be demonetized or even worse catch a strike. That's just ridiculous.

This kind of slop is why I have search history and watch history turned off, it makes the home screen of youtube blank and recommends you stuff based on who you're subbed to. At this point I only watch videos in my subscription feed.

For us, the most corporate thing was Fred, but when he went Hollywood people lost interest in his channel. Below him was Ray William Johnson, since he got a legit partnership with Hot Topic. But it was awesome cause the content never changed, we could just rep it now.
