An important thing to take away from this is that the vast majority of mass shooters in America do it because they want to be a somebody.
If you've bothered to read through any mass shooter manifestos, they do it because they often blame society for their loneliness, lack of belonging, and other problems that are often their own fault (Elliot Rodger being an infamous example of this). In other words, most mass shooters are losers seeking validation and attention.
The thing is that the vast majority of mass shooters know they're losers but they do it because they know the media will often put a lot of attention on them and they will leave their mark in history in this world by putting fear in people. They want to get their five minutes of fame in the worst way possible.
They do it for the fame and to become immortalized. The thought process for most mass shooters in America usually goes, "I'm a nobody but for me to become a somebody then I'll shoot up this place and have the news report my actions; whether I live or die afterwards is irrelevant because then people will continue to talk about me long after I'm gone. I will become immortal though memory and historic records. I will be put in the history books just like Julius Caesar and George Washington. I will become a somebody if I do this terrible thing."
The best way to deal with shit like this is make mass shooters look like a joke; don't give them any respect and don't give them the validation they want (in life or in death). Make fun of mass shooters because any would-be mass shooters wants to be remembered as a somebody that put fear in people (they want the power they will get after they have done what they've done), they don't want to be remembered as a joke (by making mass shooters look like a joke then any would-be mass shooters won't get what they want if they know people are still going to laugh at them and call them a loser afterwards anyway).

Would it come to as a surprise to the Kiwi that Nintendo and LGBT themes are nothing new and this goes as far back as the 1980's when Nintendo was still figuring out how to do games.
Birdo is Nintendo's first troon character and the first troon character in the Mario series (made their debut in Doki Doki Panic and later on in the Mario series), Vivian would also be another troon character in the Mario series (made their debut in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and this character being a troon would be uncensored in the Switch version while the old American Gamecube version had this detail being censored back then), Baten Kaitos Origins has one canon non-binary character, one of the Earthbound characters is gay in canon, and the Fire Emblem games are reowned for its LGBT themes and canon LGBT characters.
This is really nothing new for Nitnendo. Wait until Kiwi Farms find out about the really raunchy games that were only released in Japan on Nitnendo consoles but never saw an international release back in the day (while most of Nintendo's first-party games are known to be family friendly, there were games that got released in Japan on Nitnendo consoles but they never saw the light of day outside of Japan back in the day).
